Currently, swimming attracts the same interest as in ancient times. Swimming has a rich history of development, and in the course of its evolution the following directions have been formed:
- mass training in swimming as an essential skill for every person. Recall that the surface of the planet Earth is 70 percent filled with water, so the ability to swim, at least, is not devoid of practical sense!
- sports swimming and water sports;
- medical and rehabilitation swimming;
- fitness swimming;
- creative and theatrical performances, circus tricks and other entertainment activities in the aquatic environment
Swimming is the most important skill
Characterized by the acquisition of a vital skill – the ability to swim, as well as the main theoretical aspects in this area. The accumulated knowledge in the future will help determine the choice of sports specialization, as well as get a profession and possibly a favorite pastime for life.
In many ways, the interest in the development of this area is supported by state policy. In the Soviet Union, the main work included the construction of sports facilities and the creation of various regulations. An important step was the development of the TRP complex, which had the widest age coverage of the population from 10 to 60 years.
Currently, work on the mass teaching of children to swim is carried out in organizations of preschool and school education, universities and other public organizations, as well as independent classes in pools and natural reservoirs are gaining popularity.
Swimming and water sports
Sports swimming is an Olympic sport, second only to athletics in terms of the number of medals played. Medals are awarded in various types of programs, male and female.
Olympic Sports Swimming Program:
- 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 m freestyle;
- 100, 200 m breaststroke;
- 100, 200 m butterfly;
- 100, 200 m backstroke;
- 200, 400 complex swimming;
- relay swimming: 4×100 m combined, 4×100 m freestyle, 4×200 freestyle.
The ability to swim is the foundation of all water sports, which have evolved from sports swimming. Water sports include diving, synchronized swimming, water polo, underwater sports, and marathon swimming. As a separate kind of program, swimming is part of other sports, modern pentathlon, triathlon, military applied and rescue all-around.
Healing and recovery swimming
Thanks to its wonderful properties, water is a powerful healing and restorative agent. For the correct selection of exercises and training methods, it is necessary to study the main characteristics and properties of water. One of the forces interacting with the body of the practitioner is hydrostatic pressure, which evenly acts on the receptors of the body surface, stimulating the nervous system, which increases efficiency and tone.
Due to hydrostatic pressure, additional burden appears when inhaling, due to compression of the chest. It strengthens the intercostal and respiratory muscles, the diaphragm, increases breathing parameters such as VC (vital capacity of the lungs), regulates the heart rate.
Due to the high heat exchange between the body working with the aquatic environment, the metabolism in the body is accelerated, energy consumption increases, which is beneficial for overweight people. Calorie consumption may vary depending on the type and pace of exercise, for example, half an hour in water (water temperature 24 degrees Celsius) consumes about 200 kcal.
During swimming, a person is in a state of weightlessness, which is especially valuable for people who have problems with the musculoskeletal system. Since body weight is reduced, the load on the ligaments and joints is not so negative and the performance of motor actions is safer.
Due to the lack of solid support and horizontal position of the body, the joints have a high degree of flexibility. During swimming, almost all muscle groups work, which contributes to the harmonious development of muscles.
Swimming is an excellent prevention of posture disorders and flat feet. Regulate the work of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. They have a beneficial effect on the nervous system, improve sleep and appetite.
Wellness or fitness swimming is one of the components of a healthy lifestyle. It is used as a means to normalize the functional state of the body.
Condition training is usually used to increase endurance. The number of lessons per week varies from two to six, depending on the possibilities. The duration of one lesson is approximately 45 minutes. Depending on your swimming ability, you can choose exercises in three main categories:
- lessons in the shallow part of the pool;
- lessons in the deep part of the pool;
- swimming one of the types of swimming (use of long distance distance)
Volume and intensity determine the magnitude of the load. Exercise at a heart rate of about 120 beats per minute does not cause any change in the level of physical performance. The training effect of poorly trained trainees is achieved with 150 strokes or more.
When exercising, you need to avoid overwork and constantly monitor your health, level of preparedness, in addition, you can resort to medical supervision.
Creative and theatrical performances, circus tricks and other entertainment events in the aquatic environment
This direction is aimed at agitation and promotion of swimming. Water festivals are often held at the end of training periods or are seasonal. They usually have a storyline and costumed elements. These include amateur performances, demonstration performances. Patrons, famous athletes, recognizable persons are often invited to such events. Additional entourage and entertainment is provided by the musical accompaniment and commentary of the speaker.
The value of this area is to create a steady demand for classes and incites interest from children and their parents, promotes the popularization of healthy lifestyle, physical culture and sports.
